Beth & Dylan: A Wedding to Remember

Updated: Oct 21

Let me take you through Beth and Dylan's wedding—an unforgettable event that was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, brought to you by Hazel Blue Photography! From unexpected weather challenges to unforgettable moments in the dark, this day was truly one for the books in beautiful Gisborne.

Weather Woes and Candid Moments

We had envisioned serene sunset portraits at the wharf, but Mother Nature had a different plan. Rain poured down like a waterfall, and the wind nearly whisked Beth's veil away! Our outdoor shots quickly turned into a five-minute dash back inside. But guess what? That wild moment led to an epic candid shot that I absolutely adore! 😍

As the ceremony and reception concluded, the rain finally relented—but darkness fell instead. Every photographer's worst nightmare: no light! However, our fabulous bride, Beth, was all about that dark, moody aesthetic, so we decided to embrace the night. Armed with streetlights, flashes, and a softbox that had a mind of its own, we captured some truly magical moments that reflected their unique style.

The Reception and Neon Challenges

The reception at The Works in Gisborne was another gem, exuding that moody, intimate vibe, but it posed its own challenges for photography. With just a few warm bulbs illuminating the room, guests had a curious neon orange glow—definitely not the look we were aiming for! Instead of overwhelming everyone with constant flashes, I chose to let the natural moments unfold and saved the magic for the editing process later.

A Surprise Wedding

To top it all off, this wedding was a surprise! Guests thought they were simply enjoying a dinner, only to discover they were attending a wedding celebration. How amazing is that?

In the end, we captured stunning shots—dark, moody, and brimming with love. If you’re a couple searching for a photographer who can handle anything a wedding day throws your way—rain, darkness, or unexpected color palettes—I’m here to help! I’ll be taking on very limited weddings as of 2025, so if you’re ready to create some magic with Hazel Blue Photography, let’s chat! 🌟
